Sound Lab // 2020/21 // multimedia, live set-up, installation
Sound Lab explores the connection between moving image, sound and the individual as a performative component and antagonist of technology. In an audio-visual live setup installation, sound and digital images are brought into space and form the stage for the contact between humans, electronics and the virtual world.
Sounds are generated on the one hand by automatically running electronic devices, on the other hand by participating people with everyday objects and recorded with microphones. They are processed, interwoven with additional sound sources such as analog and digital synthesizers, and played back into the room, where they affect the participants. Likewise, the image generated by webcams, electronics and digital media is reproduced on monitors and projected back onto the set-up. It is directly connected to the sound and is changed and shaped by the sound sources and thus by the actions of those involved. The interactive manner of the set-up makes the connection of sound and image intuitive and tangible through the performative experience. The movements have a direct influence on the mood of the room and make the exchange with the digital space perceptible as a physical experience.
